Born during the Vietnam war and escaping during communism occupation via an 18 metre tug upon the darkness of night with over three hundred others on-board, and then lost out at sea and slowly sinking before being rescued by a cargo ship and shipped as human cargo to a refugee camp off the coast of Malaysia where my family awaited desperately for a new country to accept us.

Sounds almost like a movie scene, but this is exactly how I started life all those years ago…

Raised by a single widowed mum after the passing of my father on the refugee camp when I was two after a freak accident, with nothing more than the clothes we had on.

Growing up the son of a single mum, I learned the value of a hard day’s work.  

By watching my mum work two jobs to make ends meet, I saw how hard making money can be.

When I say I “watched” her, I mean that literally. We couldn’t afford childcare so I went with her to these jobs, hiding out in the women’s bathroom or a back table, colouring away while mum worked.

She did factory work in the morning, learned English at the immigration center during the day, and at night, she’d wash dishes at an Indian restaurant a few suburbs over.

We got home around 11 or 12 every night. And the next morning, Mum woke up at 5:30 to go back to work again.

That was our life for a good ten years as I was growing up.

So I know firsthand that…

Making money can be really hard. And stressful. And time-consuming.

However...

What I know now is that making money can also be incredibly easy.
